Year-End Reflections: Projections, Results and Milestones

The year 2023 proved to be a challenging yet transformative period for Brand Vaughan Lumber. Our internal landscape underwent significant shifts from leadership changes to facility modifications, growth, and integration of acquired entities. “Through all of those endeavors [and] all of those extracurricular activities that most businesses don’t go through all at one time, the team did a really good job of rising up and meeting our financial expectations,” says Randy Hanscom, President and GM at Brand Vaughan Lumber.

None of this would have been possible without the efforts of our management team controlling cost in a time of high inflationary pressures. In addition, our Sales Team showcased exceptional dedication and skill that translated into great results. “Our Sales Team did a really good job of getting out and competing,” explains Randy. The success of the Sales Team, combined with a strategic focus on cost-saving initiatives, contributed to our resilience and a successful wrap of the year.

Setting the Stage

Amidst the turbulence, BVL strategically utilized 2023 to set the stage for the next decade. The leadership team underwent a comprehensive reorganization, aimed towards fostering unity within the organization.

This marked a pivotal moment for us, as these moves were not merely an investment in the upcoming year but a visionary investment laying the groundwork for sustained success in the next decade.

We have focused on internal restructuring and efficiency improvements within our teams, aiming to create a solid foundation for fulfilling our ambitious goals and achieving our long-term vision.

As BVL looks ahead to 2024, one goal stands out as paramount – fostering a positive, safe, and resilient organizational culture. “That’s always at the forefront of your mind as a leader of this industry. It’s certainly on the forefront of mine. You are only as good as your people.” Randy mentions.

The transformation BVL has undergone – introducing new products, services, locations, and support structures – is substantial. “We’re building a company quickly that looks a lot different than the old company,” says Randy.

This “new” version of the company is distinct from the traditional BVL, and our leadership acknowledges that change can be uncomfortable. Hence, the primary goal for 2024 is to manage this transition positively, ensuring that the team embraces the new opportunities and experiences a cultural shift that aligns with the organization’s growth.
